Alannah is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and the owner of Overland Speech Therapy. Having worked as a Speech Pathologist for 13 years, she is an experienced therapist with a passion for working collaboratively, empathetically and holistically to support people to work towards meeting their communication goals. Alannah prides herself on providing an evidence-based, strengths-based and individualised service to support people of all ages to better engage, build meaningful connections and participate in everyday activities.
Alannah has a strong interest in early intervention and capacity building supports to develop functional communication skills, advocacy for inclusion, and supporting family engagement, particularly within the developmental disability and mental health space. Alannah is passionate about working in a neuroaffirming way and supporting people to advocate for their own or their loved one’s communication needs and access.
Before opening Overland Speech Therapy, Alannah has previously worked as a Speech Pathologist within non-government and not-for-profit settings as well as private practice. Alannah also supports people to access mental health advocacy through separate work within a ministerial appointed role. She is a practicing member of Speech Pathology Australia.
Alannah holds a Bachelor of Speech Pathology degree and a Masters of Disability Studies degree, both from the University of Newcastle. She also holds a Graduate Certificate of Mental Health from La Trobe University and a Graduate Certificate in Health Management & Leadership from Charles Sturt University. Alannah has also completed various trainings in the areas of speech, language, literacy, pragmatics and social inclusion, play, augmentative and alternative communication, autism assessment & intervention, paediatric feeding, positive behaviour support, accidental counselling and neurodiversity affirming practices.
As a mum of two young children and a carer for family with lived experience of neurodiversity and mental ill health, she understands how important it is for therapy strategies to be practical, realistic, and easy to embed into everyday family life. Her approach focuses on what works—supports that are functional, focus on connection, and make a meaningful difference.
When Alannah is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping and exploring the great outdoors, and reading a good book.
